LAKE COTTAGE

This lake cottage, located in Alton Bay NH, is a retreat on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee.  Its architecture recalls the Craftsman and Adirondack style. 

 

Facing the road, its facade, piers, and interior spaces are intimately scaled.  Along the shoreline, the cottage transitions to a scale acknowledging views of the lake and mountain-scape beyond.

The rear porch's roof is constructed of Lexan translucent panels to allow natural light within the porch and adjacent interior spaces.  Exterior lights are mounted high above the porch's roof to filter through its translucent panels to illuminate the porch at night time.  Rough sawn cedar trim, balustrades, and exposed roof rafters and beams mesh with its rusticated setting.
